Why is correct vector graphics important for printing and cutting?
The quality of vector graphics is crucial for any work that involves contour cutting or precise printing .
- Infinitely scalable without loss of quality - Vector graphics are made up of mathematical curves and points, not pixels. This means they can be scaled to any size (even a billboard) and always remain pin-sharp.
- Perfect print sharpness - Vector files (e.g. .AI, .EPS, .SVG, .PDF) retain sharp contours at all sizes, so there are no blurry or pixelated edges when printed.
- Essential for contour cutting - Cutting machines (e.g. plotters, laser cutters) work along vector lines. If the graphics are raster (e.g. JPG, PNG), the machine cannot follow the exact cutting path.
- Easy to edit and modify - Colors, shapes, sizes, and layouts can be easily changed without compromising quality.
- Precise alignments and layers - In print preparation, precise alignment is important (e.g. in the case of color blending, foiling, embossing), which only a vector file can provide without errors.
- Smaller file size, faster processing - Vector formats are often much smaller than raster images of similar quality, making them easier to work with.
