Using effect varnish

The UV-sensitive effect varnish used on swissQprint machines can be applied precisely, digitally controlled to almost any substrate – either over the entire surface or to precisely defined areas. It polymerizes under LED UV light during printing, making it immediately dry and ready for further processing.

Layer thickness : the thickness of the varnish layer can be controlled – from a very thin glossy surface to thick, tactile 3D patterns.
Gloss levels : a single type of effect varnish can achieve a satin, matte or high-gloss effect, depending on the layer thickness applied and the type of substrate.
Material compatibility : suitable for paper, cardboard, PVC, acrylic, glass, wood, aluminum composite and other flat surfaces.
Precise register : perfectly matched to graphics, text or even white printing – creating combined effects.

Types of varnishes

Different effect varnishes can also be combined with other printing techniques. Types of varnishing:

Matt : non-glossy surface, provides an elegant and discreet appearance
Gloss : an intensely shiny, reflective varnish that highlights colors and details
Semi-gloss : a surface with a balanced sheen that combines the restraint of matte with the brilliance of gloss
Drop gloss : a selective, thickly applied, embossed varnish effect that provides 3D, tactile highlights
